Logitech G502 Hero Review

Logitech G502 Hero Review

How often do you see a mouse with its own software that gets updated? It’s still a new thing. Logitech is one of the most popular brands in the computer accessories market. They have been making gaming mice for quite some time. Recently they have launched the updated version of the Logitech G502 Hero. Currently, this mouse has over 16,000 ratings on Amazon out of which over 81% are 5-stars. With a very comfortable grip and highly customizable features, this mouse is one of the best ones you will get for under $50. Read our full review to see if this mouse is worth the investment. Plus, you can also read our review on the Asus TUF A15 gaming laptop. Both are very affordable and should improve your gaming experience further.

Design

If you are familiar with the previous version of this mouse, then there’s nothing new to be amazed at. The design at first glance might seem it’s just there to make it look unique and stylish. But in fact, it also supports its usability.

It is extremely comfortable to rest your palms on and doesn’t cause any numbness even after long periods of continuous use. This is expected as the mouse is designed for gamers in mind. In an office environment, this mouse looks very out of place and might even ruin office aesthetics. But if you think in terms of usability, it is more functional than a typical mouse.

For the buttons and griping surface, it is constructed using matte black plastic material and has put glossy surface for the rest of the body. The glossy part is prone to fingerprints and grease, however, the rest decently hides most spots. Although the mouse is made of plastic, it does a really good job of giving a metallic feel.

It doesn’t have any sharp edges that you need to aware of. Logitech did a fine job in polishing the hard edges. As it is a gaming mouse, rough use is expected, therefore, the overall device is constructed to be very sturdy. In real use, it does feel as if you can drop test the mouse and it will hold up without any issue.

Buttons

Having more buttons results in more convenient gameplay. The G502 Hero doesn’t disappoint in this aspect. In total this unit has 12 buttons. Out of those 11 are customizable. Having more buttons

The tactile feedback of the buttons is straight-up great. It is very clicky and does give you a gamer feel. As the switches are mechanical, it has a potential issue of failing. However, Logitech’s mice are known to avoid these issues quite well. Depending on your use, you might see some switches failing. All the buttons and features it comes with put on more weight to it. This mouse measures about 4.3 ounces. It isn’t the lightest mouse by any means. However, you can remove some components to make them a bit more lightweight.

Scroll Wheel

We really love the metallic scroll wheel. It is very responsive and can spin freely for a few seconds, which isn’t possible by any means in a regular mouse. You can use the toggle switch right below the scroll wheel to turn on or off the free spin option. Why is it useful? Well, not for much really. However, if you want to go through long terms and conditions pages in a second, then this has no alternative?

Sensor

The newly updated sensors can go from 100 to max 25,600 DPI. The previous one was already great, but having more DPI is definitely a welcoming update. It doesn’t have any default smoothing, acceleration, or filtering.

Software

This unit comes with its own software that can be downloaded for both Mac and Windows. In the software, you can remap the buttons, record macros, adjust DPI sensitivity, and so on. More interestingly, the RGB lights can be set to whatever color your heart desires. The software allows users to save up to 5 profiles. This means your friends can use the mouse as per their preference without changing your button mapping. This is really great for multi-user functionality.

Durability & Longevity

All those features of Logitech G502 Hero sound very appealing. But If it doesn’t last long then there’s no point in buying this mouse for such a huge price. However, this mouse is rated for 50 million clicks for its left and right buttons. This means if you use this mouse for 5 hours a day, it will take 10 years for it to break. And the body itself is made very durably. There are no signs of cracking or frame noise. To make it more comfortable, you can open the bottom part and add or remove the components placed for weight management.

Final Thoughts

This mouse has great performance and flexibility but comes at a high price. It is priced at $80 but often can be found at a discounted price, which is just under $50. All in all, with its fast sensor, high tactile feedback, and a very modern sleek look, this mouse will be suitable for any newcomer or professional gamer. Logitech is known to make excellent mice and this one is no different.
