TP-Link Archer AX50

A bad internet connection will only give you headaches when you need it the most. The router is often the cause of this issue. A bad quality router doesn’t last very long and tends to be limited in feature and performance. Network coverage is another major problem that lower budget routers lack. So, to help you find a high-performant and reliable router, we have tested and written a review on one of the best Wi-Fi routers in the market.

We aimed at finding a Wi-Fi router that doesn’t just serve as a wireless internet access hub but also has modern features, such as integration with Alexa, parental control, and much more.

TP-Link Archer AX50 is one of the highest customer satisfaction rated products that you can find on Amazon. With a whopping 4000+ positive user rating, there is no reason to believe why it has been a favorite for households and office users. In case you are in the market for buying a laptop, look at our review on the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5.

Design & Construction

The design of the AX50 is overall very modern, sleek, and simple. It has a glossy plastic design on the top, and one important thing about glossy plastics is that it tends to get scuffs very easily. This model is no different. If you are not that much into the aesthetics of your router, then it is better to let the protection plastic paper as it is without peeling it off.

It has an intel logo printed at the center and a TP-Link logo at the bottom center part of the router. The footprint of the router is also fairly small. It has a width of 10.2inches, a depth of 5.3inches, and a height of 1.5inches. When you first unpack the box, you will receive the wifi router Archer AX50 itself, a router adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable, and a quick installation guide.

Regarding the ports, the AX50 comes with a 1 Gigabit WAN port, 4 Gigabit LAN ports, and also 1 USB 3.0 port that supports NTFS, exFAT, HFS+, and FAT32 format.

The design of the router is very clean, there are no buttons on the sides of it. Instead, the ports and buttons are mounted at the back for easy access and a mess-free look. It has a WIFI/WPS button, a power button, an LED on/off button, and a reset button, along with all the port access at the back.

Software

Unlike other cheaper routers, the Archer AX50 comes with advanced software functionalities. TP-Link offers a cloud storage system from where you can remotely manage your full network system.

The router system has its own service kit that TP-Link calls Homecare. It has software features like custom profiles, content filtering, app block, URL filtering, Time Limit, and much more. These features are specifically designed for parental control. The cloud services offer auto firmware updates, and OTA updates to keep the system fully updated and secured. It also has a TP-Link ID that you can use to login and access your data.

You can use the Tether app to connect to your smart devices for configuring and managing the network. If you are having guests over and don’t want to share your password with them, then there is a very easy solution for that. You can simply set up a guest wifi network that you can share. You can either set a separate password for it or leave it open.

Performance

The performance of the Archer AX50 is excellent like you would normally assume from such a high-priced router. This router comes with really high-end specs that easily outperforms any router below its category.

This updated router has 3x faster speed, 75% lower network latency, and a whopping 4x more capacity. Its excellent experience is highly aided by the Intel-powered dual-core CPU. The 256MB of RAM is sufficient enough to give a smooth and buffer-free network usage. The AX50 offers a dual-band WIFI system. The Wi-Fi 6 works if the device allows 5GHz coverage otherwise operates at 2.4Ghz for older systems.

The Archer is most suitable for 3 Bedroom houses. Its 4 antennas are capable of providing full coverage for fairly large apartment space. Its Beamforming technology aims to automatically search for connected devices and redirect the network towards that device for better connectivity.
